>> COMMUNITY LEADERS

At Lammas we aim to create a vibrant and fully inclusive learning environment for our young people; one in which every voice is heard, every contribution is valued and extends beyond the confines of the learning environment.

We recognise that student and parent leadership play a crucial role in shaping the direction of our school and as such this collaboration with key, community stakeholders is vital.

With the aims above in mind; our Student ā€˜Community Leadership Programmeā€™ and our ā€˜Parent Leadership Groupā€™ provide opportunities to our young people, parents and carers to actively engage in supporting the day-to-day life of the school community whilst providing valuable input into our strategic journey.

Student ā€˜Community Leadership Programmeā€™

Our student ā€˜Community Leadership Programmeā€™ seeks to empower our young people with the skill-set that will give them a competitive edge, the tools for life that employers value and the confidence to work collaboratively to effect positive changeā€™.

There are three strands to the student ā€˜Community Leadership Programmeā€™, which link directly to our three school values, these are:

1. WISDOM ‘Scholars’

(Open to Year 9 and 12 students)

Year 9 Scholars ā€˜undertake community outreachā€™, through secondments to Griffin Schools Trust (and other local) primary schools, engaging younger students in their learning journeys, as subject specialists.

Year 12 Scholars support younger students through paired reading work to improve literacy.

2. COURAGE ‘Mentors’

(Open to Year 9 – 13 students)

Mentors support peers by ā€˜being their voice and guideā€™; they celebrate culture and ensure wellbeing.

3. LEADERSHIP ‘Champions’

(Open to all students)

Champions ā€˜take initiativeā€™ and lead on projects inside and outside of the school; i.e. The Green Project/Diversity Day.

The three strands of our student ā€˜Community Leadership Programmeā€™ seek to nurture the development of a comprehensive package of life-skills, personal growth, and confidence:

  • Participation in group projects and conflict resolution exercises, develops critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Event planning and project management tasks hone organisational skills
  • Public speaking builds confidence and enhances presentational skills
  • Exposure to diverse perspectives promotes adaptability and encourages an open-mind
  • Networking and mentorship contribute to the development of interpersonal skills
  • Understanding the needs of others increases empathy, develops emotional intelligence and can improve self-regulation
  • Tackling challenge, delivering and receiving critical feedback fosters resilience, and aids personal and professional growth

Parent Leadership Group

Launched early in 2023, the PLG serves as a platform where Lammas Families can actively contribute to the school community and play a vital role in shaping the educational experience for our students.

PLG meetings take place every half term, on the second Wednesday of the month at 5 pm. In addition to this, we hold two informal meetups every term, one coffee morning and one afternoon tea. These are routinely advertised in our newsletter.

Any and all parents are encouraged to join our PLG and are encouraged to come along to any meeting at any of the scheduled times advertised. The input and insight of our parents is something that we want much more of!

We encourage our students and families to join us in building a strong foundation for success, fostering a sense of community, and making a lasting impact on the educational landscape of our school.
