Applauding Talent with ROSL

Over the past six weeks, 11 talented KS3 pupils from The Lammas School have taken part in a remarkable series of composition workshops in partnership with the Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL). Guided by composer Joseph Howard and workshop facilitator Christian Drew, students explored the full creative process, from discovering sound to building hybrid electronic–acoustic textures to performing their own original compositions.

Working closely with three professional ROSL ARTS musicians, pupils experimented with graphic scores, electronic tools, live instrumental layers, and collaborative sound design. The result was a set of bold, imaginative hybrid pieces that were proudly performed to their Year 7 peers this week.

A huge thank you to Geoff Parkin, Artistic Director at ROSL, whose vision and leadership made this possible, and to The Engering Trust, whose generous funding enabled Lammas students to experience this high-quality arts education firsthand.

We are incredibly proud of the pupils’ creativity, their commitment, and their willingness to step into the world of contemporary composition. Opportunities like this broaden perspectives, unlock confidence, and show young people that their ideas and their sounds matter.

Here’s to many more collaborative projects between GST and ROSL, that champion the arts and open doors for our young musicians.
