A group of students from Years 9, 10 and 11 recently visited the Hackney School of Food for a hands-on culinary experience designed to inspire confidence and creativity in the kitchen.
Guided by a professional chef, pupils worked in small teams to prepare and cook fajitas from scratch. They developed key knife skills, learnt essential food preparation techniques and explored the basics of nutrition. The session not only supported their learning in a practical, memorable way but also introduced them to the wider significance of food education and healthy living.
In addition to cooking, students toured the school’s organic gardens, which are home to a diverse range of fruits, vegetables, herbs and even chickens. This unique setting offered a real-life insight into where food comes from and how it can be grown sustainably.
The students approached the experience with enthusiasm and focus, fully engaging with every aspect of the day. We hope this opportunity has ignited a lasting interest in cooking and empowered them with a skill they will carry into adulthood.
At Lammas, we are committed to providing enriching, real-world learning experiences that widen horizons and encourage lifelong curiosity.
