A group of 24 KS3 students, primarily from Year 7, recently enjoyed a unique educational visit to the Japanese Embassy in London.
The day began with an insightful presentation on daily life in Japan. Students were struck by the discipline and community spirit demonstrated by Japanese pupils, who take responsibility for cleaning their classrooms and regularly rehearse earthquake drills. These insights in to Japanese life prompted lively questions about everything from bullet trains and high-tech toilets to the taste of fried octopus at traditional festivals.
The visit continued with a hands-on calligraphy session, where students practised writing words such as Sakura, Samurai, and United Kingdom using traditional brush techniques. Precision, patience and control were the key skills exercised.
The day concluded with an energetic Yosakoi dance workshop. Donning kimonos and using handheld drums, students enthusiastically took part in the festive routine, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and cultural appreciation.
This visit not only broadened our studentsā global perspective but also deepened their understanding of the values that unite communities across continents. A truly memorable and enriching experience.
