World Book Day Fun

By 6 March 2025March 21st, 2025No Comments

At The Lammas School, we are committed to fostering a love of reading in every student. World Book Day this year brought together pupils and staff in a celebration of books and stories, as our staff members dressed up as iconic characters from beloved books and pupils were challenged to guess which character each staff member was portraying. Curiosity opened lively discussions about favourite books and stories.

In addition to the fun of guessing games, every pupil received a special bookmark and a World Book Day token. These tokens can be exchanged for a free World Book Day book or used towards purchasing any book of their choice at participating bookshops. This is a wonderful opportunity for pupils to pick up something that sparks their interest, whether it’s a classic story, an adventure tale, or something completely new.

We are also thrilled to announce that The Scholastic School Book Fair will be arriving soon! The fair is a fantastic opportunity for pupils and families to explore a wide range of books, from fiction to non-fiction, comics, graphic novels, and more. There will be something for every reader, and a percentage of every purchase goes directly towards supporting our school’s reading resources.

Encouraging a Lifelong Love of Reading

At The Lammas School, we believe in the power of books to inspire, educate, and connect us. Whether it’s a thrilling adventure, a fascinating non-fiction book, or a beautifully illustrated graphic novel, there’s something for every reader to enjoy.

As pupils browse the Book Fair, we encourage them to explore different genres and formats to find what truly excites them. Here are a few suggestions to help pupils discover their next favourite read:

  • Follow Their Interests: Whether it’s animals, sports, space, or history, there’s a book to match every interest. From non-fiction books packed with amazing facts to fiction stories that bring those interests to life, pupils can dive deeper into what they love.

  • Explore Different Formats: If pupils enjoy comics, they might also enjoy graphic novels or illustrated chapter books. If reading feels like a challenge, audiobooks can bring stories to life in a new way. Different formats can make reading more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

  • Try Something New: Encourage pupils to step outside their usual genre. They might be surprised by how much they enjoy a mystery, a fantasy novel, or even poetry. The Book Fair is a great place to explore unfamiliar books that might spark new interests.

  • Engage in Conversations About Books: We encourage families to talk to their children about the books they’re reading – ask about their favourite parts, characters, or any surprising facts they’ve discovered.

We look forward to seeing the excitement grow as pupils explore the world of books, and we thank all our families for their continued support in encouraging a love of reading that will last a lifetime.
