Year 7 Students Embark on Exciting Meteorite Research Project

By 20 January 2025January 27th, 2025No Comments

Today our talented Year 7 students had the unique opportunity to meet with Dr. Greenwood, from The Open University, to learn about an exciting new research project focused on the collection and study of meteorites. This project, part of a collaborative initiative across GST schools, will involve students in hands-on scientific research, offering them a chance to become real-life meteorite hunters!

The project will see our students monitoring the night sky using specialist cameras installed on-site, designed to track meteorite activity. Not only will they be hunting for meteorites, but they will also get the chance to analyse the composition of these fascinating space rocks.

During their introduction to the project, our Year 7s were treated to an incredible experience ā€” holding a real fragment of the moon! This once-in-a-lifetime moment brought the mysteries of space that much closer to home and ignited excitement about the possibilities that lie ahead.

We look forward to seeing how our students will contribute to this ground breaking research and canā€™t wait to hear about their meteorite discoveries!
