A group of Year 8 girls recently represented The Lammas School in a speed mentoring event hosted by the esteemed Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering. The event took place at the Engineers Gallery in the Science Museum, providing a unique and inspiring experience for the students.
During the event, the students had the opportunity to engage with early-career women engineers, including QEPrize Ambassadors. These interactions allowed the girls to gain valuable insights into the diverse and exciting opportunities within the field of engineering. They explored the gallery, learning about the innovative solutions young female engineers from various backgrounds have developed to address real-world challenges.
Conversations with these accomplished professionals, who were once in the students’ shoes, greatly influenced the girls’ perceptions of their potential in STEM fields. Hearing first hand about the success stories and overcoming obstacles inspired the Year 8 girls to believe in their own aspirations.
The mentorship experience was so impactful that the QEPrize ambassadors expressed their desire to return and share their stories with the entire Year 8 cohort. This initiative aims to inspire and empower as many young minds as possible, encouraging them to pursue their dreams in engineering and beyond.
